Our Reclaimed Teak Wood
At Reddie, we craft all products labelled 'wood' using reclaimed solid teak, sustainably sourced from old buildings and construction. This is our standard offering and the most environmentally responsible choice compared to new wood. Our skilled craftspeople meticulously finish and refine it, giving it a new life while celebrating its unique journey through additional variations, markings, and patches. Teak's renowned strength, versatility, and longevity make it an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor furniture.
The Handcrafted Reclamation Process
The journey of our reclaimed wood involves carefully removing old nails and bolts and manually patching each log during restoration. These patches and nail marks aren't flaws; they're cherished parts of the wood's story, highlighting its unique past and the artistry involved in its transformation. These distinctive details ensure that every Reddie piece is truly one-of-a-kind, embodying both sustainability and individual character.
Important Notes on Teak Wood
Finishes: We offer four finishes for indoor teak wood: natural, oak, walnut, and black. For outdoor pieces, only the natural teak finish is available.
Unique Variations: As a natural, reclaimed product, the size, age, colour, and grain of each wood panel will vary. Expect lighter and darker tones, along with nail/bolt markings and patches. Samples and website images should be used as a guide only, as each piece is unique.
Finishing & Appearance: Indoor timber is finished with an oil-based lacquer sealer, while outdoor timber uses a water-based sealer. Our outdoor timber will have a more natural, untreated look and won't be as golden as the indoor teak. Please note that reclaimed timber naturally exhibits more variations, markings, and patches than virgin timber.
Outdoor characteristics: teak wood outdoors naturally weathers to a silver-grey patina over time. Certain sections will weather at different speeds depending on exposure levels to direct sunlight, rain pooling, extreme temperatures, humidity and dry air. Marks and blotches may appear when wet before drying.
Sustainability in Practice: All wood offcuts are up-cycled into accessories and homewares.
