Our standard timber is 100% reclaimed solid teak wood, sourced from old buildings and construction.
Our designs are naturally crafted and hand-made. We do not mass produce and as a result there will be variations and imperfections, which are to be celebrated.
Characteristics & Colour
Teak wood is a premium timber with beautiful grains, universally known as the 'rolls royce of timber'. It is a dense hardwood, and exceptionally durable to withstand heavy use, impact and conditions. It can be used for both indoor and outdoor furniture, and is known for its natural oils that make it highly resistant to moisture and decay. These characteristics help teak wood withstand outdoor elements such as rain, humidity and dew, as well as resistance to insects and pests. Along with its versatility and longevity, these qualities contribute to teak's reputation as one of the best woods for furniture use.
We use 100% reclaimed solid teak wood as our standard offering. The timber for indoor use can be stained in various finishes including natural, black, lighter oak and darker walnut (the teak oak finish is similar to a darker aged oak). Timber for outdoor use is only made with a natural finish. Please note there will be variations in the wood colour/tone due to the nature of reclaimed timber as a solid natural material. Every panel will vary in size, colour and grain, as each wood piece is different and consist of lighter and darker tones.
Our reclaimed timber is sourced from old buildings and construction, and has additional variations, markings and patches. We use a 2 pac polyurethane sealer on our indoor tables to protect from spills and staining, and a natural water based sealer for outdoor. The outdoor timber will have a more natural / untreated look, and won't be as golden as indoor teak. We cannot guarantee each piece will be the same colour, much like how 2 people will never be identical. This applies for multiple items in the same order, as well as different/separate orders. The website images and samples should be used as reference only, as the actual tones/colours will differ slightly with each panel.
Indoor Solid Wood Care
Our timber table and desk tops have a polyurethane finish to protect the wood (maintenance instructions outlined below). All other items outside of table tops are finished with an oil-based lacquer sealer for indoor (and water-based for outdoors). If you would like to have your tables refinished, we recommend using a similar product.
Solid wood can expand and contract in response to temperature changes. Small surface cracks and movement may occur and are a normal part of the characteristics of the wood. Please avoid extreme temperature, humidity or dry air variations, placing your furniture outside (if made for indoor), in direct sunlight, or directly underneath/in front of any air-conditioning vents or heaters. Please note larger cracks will appear over time in solid wood block items such as the bob block stool.
*If the item is too hot to hold in your hand, it is too hot to place directly on the timber. Please use a coaster or plate before placing hot items or drinks.
*It is recommended to wipe spills immediately, they should not be left overnight and/or for long periods of time. Please use a combination of mild soap and water to clean the wood surface. Use a soft cloth to wipe the surface in the direction of the grain, and do not use any metal scrubbers. If you use a detergent it needs to be non-corrosive, non bleaching and no solvent and suitable for cleaning wood.
REPAIRS
1) Very light scuffs- Use Gilly Scratch Cover as directed.
Solid Teak Natural/ Oak - Use the Light Oil
Solid Teak Walnut / Black- Use the Dark Oil
*Please note this just tones the white part of the scratch to the colour of the wood, and disguises it. The scratch can still appear.
2) Complete Restoration
If you want a 100% perfect new finish we recommend a restorer who can lightly sand back the whole table and apply a polyurethane coating evenly on site.
Suggested product: Watsons wipe on Poly
* Please note that because we are not sure what chemicals that have been used the product can react differently so it's recommended you do a test patch first in one corner.
Polyoil instructions:
1-Sand back previously varnished surfaces to a dull finish using. a 400 or more grade sandpaper. Don't press too hard, just lighty scuff the surface.
2-Remove all sanding dust before coating.
3-Thoroughly clean the surface and allow it to dry.
4-Apply one coat. Allow to dry for 6 hours.
5- Smooth It (Optional): If you want it really smooth, lightly sand it after it's dry and wipe off the dust.
More Coats (If You Want): Do step 2 and 3 again for a tougher finish.
Please be sure to always follow products instructions.
*Our recommendation would always be to have a professional complete the job for a perfect finish or if you are unsure.
Outdoor Solid Wood Care
Teak wood naturally weathers to a silver-gray patina over time, which many people find appealing. The weathering time frame will depend on the elements / conditions (ie certain sections will weather faster with more exposure to direct sunlight or rain pooling). More surface cracks and movement are likely to appear on outdoor wood based on the external conditions it is exposed to (ie. extreme temperatures, humidity, dry air and direct sunlight).
If you prefer to maintain its original natural timber colour, it is possible to have it re-sanded and finished with a water based sealer. Covering outdoor teak when it's not in use, or placing it out of direct sunlight will protect it from the elements and delay the greying.
OUTDOOR SOLID WOOD CARE
All timber outdoor furniture left exposed to the elements will experience discolouration from the environment and some surface mould. To care / clean outdoor timber, firstly remove any dirt, cobwebs and leaves that have built up on the surface with a stiff bristled brush (follow the natural timber grain to avoid scratching). Then use an eco-friendly teak wood cleaner and soft cloth to clean the timber, and wash it with a hose and allow it to dry. A water based sealer is applied on all Reddie outdoor timber for protection, and should be applied annually to maximise care and protection.
If you would like to eliminate the grey/silver tones, lightly sand the surface and apply a water based outdoor wood sealer when discolouration occurs. If the greying is not a problem, simply skip the sanding step and just apply a water based sealer. Please note the greying may vary on each item depending on what parts are exposed to direct sunlight.
Wood Accessories Care
The bowls, spoons and chopping boards/trays are finished with a mineral oil, and may stain over time with liquid and food use. Apply a mineral oil periodically to keep it in good condition.
ACCESSORIES CARE
Hand-wash only with mild soap and water, do not put in the refrigerator or dishwasher. Don't let the items soak in water as this may cause the wood to crack, it is recommended to dry right away with a soft cloth. Stains may develop if anything moist is left on the wood for long periods. Extreme temperatures, humidity, and dry air can cause the wood to crack or warp, so store in a spot with good air circulation away from direct sunlight, heaters, and the oven. Occasionally, rub with mineral oil to maintain the finish.

Wood Veneer Care
*Select table tops can be made using wood veneer (with mdf substrate) instead of solid wood. The same maintenance is required as solid wood.
*actual material, grains and finish colours/tones may vary to website images, please use as guide only for illustrative purposes. Each reclaimed timber panel will differ in size, age and lifecycle.
