DISCO PANTERA

Retro New York Feels In Sydney's Nightlife

We chat with REDDIE's own trade representative and talented interior designer, Cass Siow, about her creative process behind designing Disco Pantera—a late-night cocktail bar that channels the vibrant energy of New York’s 60s and 70s bar scene.

Perched just upstairs from Bar Tigra in Sydney's Quay Quarter, Disco Pantera is the brainchild of the Purnell brothers. Their vision? A vibrant, retro-inspired space brimming with character, where every detail tells a story and the lived-in charm makes you feel right at home.

Cass takes us through the journey, from the design inspiration to the thoughtful touches that make this space truly unforgettable.

THE INSPIRATION

OF DISCO PANTERA

Q: What was the inspiration behind Disco Pantera?

Cass: The Purnell brothers wanted to capture the vibrant energy of New York’s 60s and 70s bar culture. Their vision was a lively, retro lounge layered with charm and nostalgia, where every detail invited guests to immerse themselves in the atmosphere while keeping a fresh, modern edge.

Q: How did you bring this vision to life?

Cass: We drew heavily on classic design cues from the era, blending polished stainless steel with dark-stained reclaimed teak wood to create a bold, contrasting aesthetic. Electric blue leather was introduced for an extra pop of colour, amplifying the retro vibe. We also crafted custom Dylan banquette seating with built-in storage, which provides a cosy yet functional space for groups.

SIGNATURE

BAR FRONT

Q: Tell us about the signature “Michelin Man” bar front.

Cass: The bar front is truly one of my favourite features. It’s crafted from hand-sculpted reclaimed teak panels, designed to mimic the rounded rolls of the Michelin Man. The material itself adds a rich, lived-in feel, while the design gives it a sculptural, one-of-a-kind presence.

Q: Were there any exciting firsts for REDDIE in this project?

Cass: Absolutely! Disco Pantera marks the debut of our Cinta barstool and a chunkier version of our classic Milton barstool. These pieces added a playful sophistication to the space, tying everything together beautifully.

Q: How would you describe the final result?

Cass: It’s a space full of energy, character, and soul. Whether you’re enjoying a cocktail or dancing the night away, Disco Pantera is all about embracing retro vibes with a modern twist. It’s a project I’m really proud of!
